Lowenstein Sandler has named partner Zarema A. Jaramillo as head of its Washington, D.C., office, effective as of January 1, 2020. Jaramillo will further the firm’s efforts to strategically grow Lowenstein’s presence in the nation’s capital. The D.C. office was founded in 2014 by Jeffrey Blumenfeld, who has led its expansion over the past five years.

Wingens. “Zarema is universally respected by everyone she works with, both inside and outside of the firm, making her the right leader to continue the growth of the D.C. office.”
Blumenfeld joined the firm in 2013 as Chair of Lowenstein’s antitrust practice and with the aim of founding a D.C. office for the firm. The office officially opened in 2014 and has grown to include Insurance Recovery, Global Trade & Policy, and an expanded Antitrust/Competition practice. Blumenfeld will continue as Co-chair of the firm’s Antitrust/Competition group, representing companies and their investors on competition issues.

Jaramillo served as a trade specialist for the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration in the Office of China and as the Acting Director of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Corporate Governance Program in the Office of Russia. During her tenure in these roles, she provided guidance to U.S. companies regarding bilateral and unilateral treaties and trade agreements and compliance with international standards.
At Lowenstein, Zarema advises clients from the financial services, technology, life sciences, telecommunications, and other sectors on complex antitrust matters such as government investigations, M&A transactions, and complex litigation, including high-stakes class action defense. She also defends clients in enforcement matters before state and federal agencies and foreign regulators, and she counsels clients on compliance with U.S. and foreign anti-bribery and anti-corruption regulations and trade laws, including U.S. sanctions, export controls, and import tariff matters.
