Lowenstein Sandler and two of its intellectual property lawyers, partner Vanessa A. Ignacio and counsel Matthew P. Hintz, have been included in the 2019 edition of World Trademark Review 1000 – The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals (WTR 1000). This is the eighth consecutive year that Lowenstein and Ignacio have been listed in the WTR 1000 and Hintz’s first appearance in this prestigious publication.
The WTR 1000 is an annual research directory of trademark practices and practitioners worldwide. It is a special supplement of World Trademark Review, a leading, independent daily news resource that reports on trademark matters for in-house counsel and law firm lawyers around the globe. Firms and lawyers are included in the directory based on interviews and correspondence with hundreds of practitioners and client representatives. Individuals and firms qualify for inclusion in the WTR 1000 if they receive a critical level of positive feedback from sources who are knowledgeable of their practices and the markets in which they operate.
In Lowenstein’s listing in the WTR 1000, the publication lauds the firm for regarding intellectual property as a business asset and adds that the firm’s “approach and advice … [are] therefore rigorously commercial.” Ignacio is described as a “sword and shield for her clients” who “offers specialised expertise in lots of areas, from online enforcement to IP transactions.” The publication describes Hintz as an IP “whiz” who “has been making his presence felt in the International Trademark Association, participating in various committees and moderating table topics at the organisation’s annual meeting.” The WTR 1000 notes that Hintz “stays on top of emerging issues in trademark law in order to enable his clients to see round corners.”
Ignacio and Hintz are members of Lowenstein’s Trademarks, Copyrights & Trade Secrets and Technology & Media Transactions practices as well as the firm’s Tech Group. Ignacio is also Chair of the Trademark Prosecution and Enforcement Practice.
Ignacio represents clients with respect to trademark clearance, development, maintenance, and enforcement, as well as a broad range of copyright and IP issues. She manages trademark portfolios (from brand selection to clearance and registration to licensing, maintenance, and enforcement) totaling thousands of marks for hundreds of clients. Ignacio also handles opposition and cancellation proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and manages contested proceedings in jurisdictions around the world. She has a stellar track record in Uniform Dispute Resolution Proceedings involving global domain names.
Hintz devotes his practice to intellectual property law with a concentration in trademark and copyright counseling. He manages global trademark portfolios and assists clients with clearance, due diligence, application filings, prosecution, and enforcement. In 2018, Lowenstein selected him to represent the firm in the 2018 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Fellows Program, an initiative created to identify, train, and advance the next generation of leaders in the legal profession.
