Lowenstein Sandler announces that John Wayne Horton has joined the firm as partner in its Emerging Companies & Venture Capital (ECVC) group from the Silicon Valley office of Goodwin Procter, where he was a partner. Horton is based in Lowenstein Sandler’s Palo Alto office and is the second partner to join Lowenstein’s ECVC group in as many months.
Horton, who has been in the San Francisco Bay area for 25 years since earning his degree at Stanford, represents startups and growth companies as outside general counsel, with an emphasis on venture capital financings, growth/private equity deals, merger and acquisition transactions, and private tender offers. He also represents the venture capital, growth, and private equity funds that finance and acquire those companies.
Anthony W. Raymundo, Managing Partner of Lowenstein’s Palo Alto office, says, “Adding John Horton in Palo Alto enhances our powerhouse ECVC group, shows our ongoing commitment to San Francisco Bay area entrepreneurs and venture funds, and enhances Lowenstein’s reputation as a dynamic force in the startup ecosystem.”
Horton says, “I’m excited to be joining a team that began in the 1990s, with multiple partners who have been doing venture deals for more than 25 years each. Much like our Silicon Valley clients, I find the youthfulness of Lowenstein’s Palo Alto-based ECVC team to be appealing and relatable, having been law school classmates with my new Lowenstein partner Chandra Shih, who started at the firm when we graduated, and having worked opposite the team on numerous deals, including with shared clients. I’m also enthusiastic about leveraging Lowenstein’s impressive VentureCrush platform, through which entrepreneurs and investors connect, as the firm and its friends deepen their understanding of the market.”
“Our ECVC team has numerous shared relationships with John, including mutual large venture firm clients. Those sophisticated shared clients and relationships enabled us to move quickly, as it was clear to us that John’s substantive excellence in venture financings, M&A, and as a trusted board room advisor, along with the relationships John has developed during his 25 years in Silicon Valley, would enhance our emerging companies and venture capital capabilities, especially in the San Francisco Bay area,” says Ed Zimmerman, partner, Chair, and Co-founder of the firm’s ECVC Group.
Horton, the newest partner in Lowenstein Sandler’s ECVC group, arrives at Lowenstein less than two months after Abe Kwon joined the firm’s ECVC group in New York. Kwon, like Horton, had been a partner at Goodwin before joining Lowenstein’s ECVC team. Horton received his J.D. with honors from Santa Clara University School of Law and his B.A.S. from Stanford University.
