Lowenstein Sandler mourns the passing of our partner and friend, John D. Schupper, on October 17, 2023.
John joined the firm in 1969 following his clerkship with Justice Joseph Weintraub, Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court. He dedicated the next 45 years of his career to building and shaping the firm.
John served on Lowenstein’s Executive Committee for decades and held numerous other leadership roles, including chairing the Management Committee (now known as the Operating Committee) and serving as Chief Financial Officer. His vision and guidance were instrumental in laying the foundation upon which Lowenstein Sandler has continued to grow.
John’s diverse corporate practice entailed counseling senior management on complex financial, operating, and strategic planning issues, including the negotiation and implementation of financial and business transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, including leveraged buyouts and recapitalizations; debt and equity securities placement; troubled-debt restructurings; and securities enforcement issues for broker-dealers and others. He earned his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and his LL.B cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law.
John will be missed by all who knew him. We extend our deepest sympathies to John’s wife Linda and daughters Debra (Jamie) Schachtel and Julie (Gregg) Klein as well as John’s five grandchildren.
